Whether you want to know how our products have to be connected in the right way, or how you can achieve a maximum of sound enhancement with minimum costs, please refer to this page first. In most cases you will find the answer to your questions here.

FAQ 15: I have only two components, is it recommended to
connect these without multiple socket outlet
directly to the double-line-filter NFL100?
Generally an exchange of current used powercords to shielded
ones is recommended, because it is almost impossible to avoid laying powercords
and signal cable parallel. The 50Hz-hum in the ambiance of unshielded powercords
affects the tiny signals in audio-cables in a negative way. In the most
unfavorable case, an annoying hum is hearable through the speakers. You can
avoid this problems with shielded powercords from AUDIO-TUNING-PITHAN.
Furthermore, the high cross-section of 2,5 sqmm of each wire guarantees an
almost loss-free transportation of the electrical energy to the connected
A cold-device-plug at the end of the powercord is used,
if the connected device can´t become extraordinary warm or hot. Because of its
special shape with this kind of plug it is not possible, that they can plugged
into devices like electric irons, waffle irons, heaters, boilerplates or
powerful power amplifiers. This kind of plug is manufactured out of
thermoplastic material and would be deformed if heated up too much. A
warm-device-plug in contrast consists of heat resistant duroplastic
material and can be used for every device, also for components which become hot.
All plugs used at AUDIO-TUNING-PITHAN are warm-device-plugs, thus it is ensured
that our powercords are for universal use and will fit to all commercial
All multiple socket outlets from AUDIO-TUNING-PITHAN are
equipped with a ferrite-ring at the end of the cord, in front of the
device-sockets. This ferrite-ring acts as filter, because it is blocking
interferences coming from the mains-network, like distortions from switches and
motors. This interferences usually transfer energy with high frequency, for
which the ferritte-ring is almost a short circuit. Thus negative influences on
the sound are decreased and can´t get further to the connected components.
The multiple socket outlet FNL6 does not contain a
mains-switch, because multiple music-lovers are the opinion, that a switch can
alter the sound in a negative way. The multiple socket outlet FNL6S has -
similar to the FNL8 and FNL10 - a mains-switch, which nevertheless can be
bridged on demand before delivery without extra costs. The deterioration in
sound which is caused by a switch is relatively small and should not be
overestimated. At this point, other aspects should be considered, for example
the simple way to disconnect the complete equipment from mains power if leaving
the house for vacation. Furthermore both multiple socket outlets with filter are
manufactured by different companies. The sound enhancement however is absolutely
If you have only one line filter NFL50 - this is the minimum
configuration - it is recommended to connect the most used digital
source-component. This can be for example a CD-, SACD- or DVD-player. With this
configuration you will obtain the optimal sound improvement. There are two
simple reasons: First: a source-component is very sensitive against hum and high
frequency interferences Because the musical informations, existing as electrical
signal-voltages, are very low at the beginning of the chain and afterwards,
every unwanted signal which is not part of the record, will also be amplified.
Second: every digital device causes unwanted harmonics during its
digital-to-analog conversion which can´t be filtered out to 100 percent. These
harmonics get back into the mains and can affect other devices, like pre- or
integrated amplifier in turn. The line filter NFL50 acts bidirectional, that
means, it reduces distortions in both ways: to the connected component and also
back from it (return loss).
If you have more than one, place the first one as described
above (FAQ 5). The second line filter should be connected to the pre- or
integrated amplifier. If your CD-player is separated into drive and converter,
it is recommended to provide one filter for each of both devices. If you only
listen to an analog source, the first filter should be placed in front of the
turntable and the second in front of the phono-, pre- or integrated amplifier.
Proceed similar if you have a tape- or cassette-deck.
If two line filters are directly connected in series in front of
a component, there will be no further sound enhancement. Contrariwise there can
be a loss of sound quality due to overfiltering.
From electrical side this is no problem because the maximum
permanent load capacity of the NFL50 is 2.300 Watts and hence sufficient to
drive even extremely powerful amplifiers on speakers with low efficiency. Even
if you hear music at a very loud level, the permanent power output does not
reach more than approx. 50-100 Watts. The peaks of power-pulses, which usually
last only a few miliseconds, required by the speakers at certain musical events
(drumbeat, very low organ notes), can be up to factor ten higher. Since the load
capacity of the NFL50 for pulses is much higher than the permanent load
capacity, there will be no dynamic compressions. Anyhow this alternative is
recommended only if the power supply system is strongly interferred and you
frequently can hear cracks and/or hum from the speakers. Furthermore with this
alternative the advantage of return loss does not apply, look also FAQ 5.
This combination is explicitely recommended, because the
properties of the filters are tuned harmonically and no "overfiltering" can
All new cables, regardles if power-, audio- or speakercable,
need a more or less long "burn-in-time". During this procedure, the crystal
structure inside the conductor and the dielecrical property of the insulating
material are altered. This procedure can last, depending on the cable itself,
the connected component and the listening level, between 10 und 50 hours. After
this period the whole sound-potential of the cable can be obtained. Some dealers
even offer so called "burner" which should reduce this timespan. Don´t wonder if
the sound of a new cord or multiple socket outlet does not fulfil your
expectations, here you must be a little patient!
That plug is a so called C7-plug which you will sporadicly find
in source-components. The power-rating of this type is smaller (6 Ampère) than
at a warm-device-plug, Since these plugs are sealed with the cord, a termination
is laborous and costly. Furthermore there are types with small variations on the
market. AUDIO-TUNING-PITHAN can terminate after a detailed description of the
plug-type (photo via E-Mail) for additionsal charge of Euro 10,- for each cord.
Yes, you can pick up your goods at company site after
arrangement and thus you will save the shipping costs.
If purchasing larger amounts of goods, you´ll get an additional
discount depending on the price.
Yes, for example components from Linn, Cyrus, Naim, Mission,
Creek, Arcam, Camtech or NAD can be connected without problems.
If you have only two devices, e.g. CD-player and integrated
amplifyer, this is the optimal solution. Both components are connected in the
best way and protected against distortions. The standard-cordlength of the
NFL100 of 0,5m can be modified by us according to your room-conditions.
